A/N: My first FMA ficcy. Wanted to tryout my new love for this fandom. I love boy/boy love don't get me wrong, but this is not that type of fic. Don't see it for Roy/Ed. Sorry. Enjoy the fluffiness of it all anyway!
Watching Over You:
By: LOSTrocker
Ed was hoping when he woke up he would find Winry beside him. He was surprised it was someone else. Mustang. He couldn't help but gawk at the Col. Why was he here? He was the least person he'd think that would be waiting here with him.
Mustang stirred when he felt someone watching him. He opened his eyes and was thankful to see Ed awake. "How are you feeling?"
Words seemed to fail Ed. He still didn't get it. Col. Mustang was here, waiting for him to wake up. Hell just froze over.
Mustang knew away to get Fullmetal to answer. "Judging by that shrimp expression, I'm sensing you're better."
"WHO ARE YOU CALLING SO SHORT HE NEEDS AN ARROW TO POINT OUT WHERE HE HIS?!" Ed was furious, jumping up and down, waving his arms about.
The Col. laughed. "Easy there, you don't want to over do it just yet."
"But you provoked me dammit!" Ed reminded him.
"I had to get you talking didn't I?" Mustang asked him with a smirk.
"I really hate you, you know that." he retorted. "Why are you here anyway? I thought you'd be off dancing somewhere once word got to you that I was sick."
Mustang couldn't believe the words coming out of Ed's mouth. "You have some real nerve saying that." he replied.
"Do I?" questioned Ed in return.
So, Ed didn't see. No one saw. Well, maybe except Hawkeye, but then again nothing got based her. He didn't have to say anything. She just knew. The truth was he did care for Ed, even if he didn't show like he should. Over the years rather he like to admit or not he was growing attached to Fullmetal. It was almost if he'd become his son, and he the father. But Roy rather be dead then admit that to Ed. He didn't want to show him he had any short of weakness.
"You honestly think I'd be rejoicing to find one of my fellow Alchemist hurt?" Must asked hotly.
Then Ed caught something not only in the Col's. voice but in his eyes. There was caring there, even though anger almost drew out. Soemthing he'd never thought he'd find, espically when it came to him. Ed had caught some kind of love from the Col. A father's. One he thought he'd almost forgot what was like to recieve.
"So, how long have you been here?" Ed was curious. Was he here the whole time?
"Long enough." was the only answer Mustang gave him.
Ed smiled. He figured he wouldn't truely answer but it was more than enough.
Mustang got up to fetch the others, but Ed stopped him. "Hey Col.,"
Mustang turned around. "Yes?"
Ed smiled at him. "Thanks."
Mustang returned his smile and bowed his head out of respect. Before he took his leave, Mustang couldn't resist. "You're still a shrimp."
Ed gave him a small laugh. "And you're still just some Col. with a God complex."
Then he left. Ed a new respect for the man he called Col. He wished he could give him a new title: dad. It was more fiting he thought but he knew Mustang would die first, or would he? Either way he would call him that in his mind, and heart.
The two now had a new respect for one another.
