Dosen't that sound all nice and offical.
Winry Rockbell walks to a group of graves carring a group of hand picked flowers. She stops at each grave placeing a couple of flowers on each. She stops and kneels at one. "Hi mom, hi dad. Sorry I haven't been to visit you lately. I 've been on an adventure with Ed and Al. They think they're really close to the philosiphers stone." Then Winry looked up at a pair of graves behind her parents, and she got to her feet and walked to them. Ed and Al came up behind her
"Are those your grandparents' graves?" Al asked
"Yes Al."
"Winry, can you tell me about your Grandfather."
"Come on Al you met him." Ed responded
"Yeah, but...I don't remember."
"It's ok Al....
Well grandaddy was a hillbilly scholar,
blue collar of a man...
He came from the school of
"you don't need nothin' if you can't make it with your own two hands"
He was backwoods, backwards, used words like:
no sir, yes ma'am, by god, be darned, hell yeah I'm a Rockbell...
And all the years he walked this earth
I swear all he did was work
He said the devil dreams of an idle horse
so you listen to me squirt...
Don't get too high on a bottle
and get right with the man.
Fight your fights
Find your grace
And all the things that you can't change
And help somebody if you can"
Winry was in tears after remembering what her grandfather had always told her.
"I'm sorry Winry. I didn't mean to make you cry."
"It's ok Al." Winry responded wrapping her arms around Al's. "It's ok." Then Al and Winry turned and walked toward Winry's house. Winry looked back and asked "Ed you coming?"
"In a minute." Ed said looking down at the stone marked simply Pinako Rockbell. As he stood staring at the tomestone wondering if he should say anything, a flood of memories came to him:
Now Granny said sonny
stick to your gun if you believe in something
no matter what
cause it's better to be hated for who you are
than loved for someone you're not.
She was 5 feet of concrete.
Raised on a slick city street
She'll stare you down, stand her ground,
still kickin' and screamin' at 93
Then the memory of the last thing she had told him came to mind.
I remember how frail she looked
lying in her bed
taking her last few breaths of life
and smiling as she said
Don't get too high on a bottle
Just a little sip now and then.
Fight your fights
Find your grace,
And all the things that you can't change
And help somebody if you can,
And get right with the man
As Winry walked beside Al she remember a little mock fight her grandmother and grandfather had when she was little:
I never let a cowboy make the coffee
Yeah that's what Granny always said to my Grandad
And he'd say never tell a joke
that ain't funny more than once
Then told Al some advice her Grandfather had given her
and if you wanna hear God laugh,
tell Him your plans
"What?"
"Something else my Grandfather use to tell me."
Ed looks the recently overturned dirt and said
"Don't get too high on a bottle
Get right with the man, son.
Fight your fights
Find your grace
And all the things that you can't change
And help somebody if you can
And get right with the man
And get right with the man"
Ed paused and said. "You konw what old woman, I still have no idea what you meant by that." |
